Made In Whitehawk
Made in Whitehawk has been launched to make cultural events by, with and for the people of the local estates and Whitehawk Football Club who wouldn’t otherwise get the opportunities. Over the next few months, it will develop new writing, create a choir and give young people the chance to flex their comedy skills.
In November 22 we presented a work in progress performance of BALLS, by Sophie Cook and Paul Hodson. Staged as a book launch, it tells the story of a fictional football who has transitioned. We're now looking at future options for BALLS.
With The Crew Club in Whitehawk, in partnership with Komedia Productions, young people 11-16 are learning the skills of stand-up comedy with comedian Tom Veryzer and guest artists.
Choir leader Aneesa Chaudhry is working with a group of local singers and the singing fans of WFC to see if football chants can develop into harmonised songs.
The project strands were brought together in the festive cabaret event Stand Up for Whitehawk 22 on Thursday 15 December at the football club, as fundraiser for the East Brighton Food Co-op.
Made in Whitehawk is funded by Arts Council England, Brighton and Hove City Council, The Chalk Cliff Trust. The Team is Director Paul Hodson, Production Manager Paul Phillips, Producer Lisa Wolfe, and WFC Liaison Kevin Miller.
