A passionate comedy, spanning three decades, about attitude, friendship
and the Voice of a Generation.
1977: two lads’ lives are transformed by Strummer’s potent mix of soulful rock’n’roll and rebel politics. They struggle to stay true to the ‘cause’ as they cope with the Thatcher years, crap 80s music, paying the bills and maintaining relationships.
2002: Strummer’s tragic and unexpected death forces the lads to re-evaluate their lives.
‘A magnificently simple, heartfelt, clear and brave show, created by three men who are not afraid to put themselves on the line and try and analyse what that meant to them emotionally, politically, in terms of their masculinity, in terms of what they did with their own creativity and their chances of bettering themselves in the late twentieth century. It’s a lovely show; it’s very funny but it’s one of only a couple of shows on this fringe that have actually made me cry and many other people in the audience too.'
Joyce MacMillan (The Scotsman) presenting the Fringe First Award

‘Paul Hodson's marvellous play… it's required viewing, not just for Strummer's many admirers, but also for anyone who enjoys funny, perceptive and passionately sincere new writing’
Manchester Evening News
’Played in a deliberately rough-and-ready, semi-stand-up style, Hodson's production is a vital piece of docu-theatre.’ The Herald
